Description, advantages and use of PPG T4001 Paint Base:
Technical description of PPG T4001 waterborne paint base:
PPG's T4001 High Performance paint base is a specific sunbeam gold waterborne base colour. The Envirobase High Performance system is recognised by professional bodybuilders for its compliance with current and future environmental regulations, offering quick and easy application and exceptional colour accuracy.
Envirobase High Performance is a water-based matt basecoat system for use in the repainting of vehicles in need of repair (opaques, metallics, micas, special effect colours), offering excellent recast and coverage properties.
Flexible and easy to apply to the bodywork surface, this professional range is characterised by the very high quality of finish obtained, particularly in terms of gloss and durability.
Thanks to its water-based technology, LA is a VOC-free product that meets the need for VOC reduction in bodywork operations and workshops.
What are the benefits of PPG T4001 Paint?
1- Respect for the environment:
T4001 is a waterborne product, so it emits fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than solvent-based systems, helping to reduce environmental impact.
2- Easy application:
The system is designed for easy application, with fast drying times and excellent colour accuracy, improving the efficiency of automotive repair operations.
3- Enhanced durability:
Offers improved durability and an accurate match with OEM finishes, ensuring high quality results.
How is PPG T4001 Paint used?
T4001 is used as a toner in the Envirobase High Performance system to create finishes with a shimmering gold effect. It is particularly suitable for reproducing specific OEM colours or for projects requiring a brilliant golden tint. For application, we strongly recommend that you follow the instructions below regarding mixing, viscosity and spray techniques to achieve the best results for your car body repair work:
Step 1: Degreasing the substrate:
Wash to remove all residues and dry thoroughly before re-cleaning with PPG's D8401 Water-Based Degreaser.
Clean and dry all substrates after each stage of the Preparation work. Immediately wipe the surface treated with the Degreaser using a clean, dry microfibre cloth.
Step 2: Sanding and priming :
Sand the original finishes with a P500 grit Abrasive discs. All base colours can be applied using the PPG range of primers, which are compatible with water-based bases.
Step 3: Mixing preparation :
Shake Envirobase bases for a few seconds before use. We recommend using nylon paint filters specially designed for use with waterborne products (125 to 190 microns).
Optimum viscosity is 20 to 27 seconds. This viscosity may vary according to the level of dilution chosen. Pot life is three months. It is essential to shake well before using and applying to your bodywork surface.
Step 4: Adjusting the Spray gun :
Use an HVLP gravity-feed spray gun with a plastic paint tank designed for water-based products, then adjust the diameter of your nozzle to 1.2 - 1.4 mm.
Step 5: Number of coats:
Apply a Full layer after complete drying, apply a second coat.
Apply a placement veil directly to the dry film at an input pressure of 1.2 to 1.5 bar (except for opaque colours).
Be careful, a placement veil that is too dry can cause powdering, which encourages the Clearcoat to peel off.
Step 6: Drying time for your surface :
Leave to evaporate until the surface is completely dry and has a uniformly matt appearance. The minimum evaporation time before applying Clearcoat is 15 minutes and the maximum is 24 hours. If the base is not sufficiently dry, the Clearcoat may come off more easily.
